The 2019 CAN DO Challenge Champion is...
The CAN DO Community Challenge not only extends to local businesses, congregations, and individuals, but also to our schools where students strive to win the CAN DO trophy.
The Challenge winner was determined on a point system:
- 10 points for donated dollars (for every $1 donated, the Pantry can purchase $9 worth of food)
- 5 points for “high powered” items (canned meat, peanut butter, beans, plain oatmeal, brown rice, beef stew and whole wheat pasta)
- 5 points for every volunteer hour
- 1 point for every other item donated
2019 was another year of fierce competition, but for the first time, Hatch Elementary won the CAN DO Community Challenge School Competition. Hatch had to beat out fierce competition for the other participating schools, but came out victorious with 28,107 points.
Mann Elementary captured the Most Spirited Award, Willard Elementary received the Double Your Impact Award, and Beye earned Most Improved honors. Combined, the schools raised enough food and monetary donations to provide over 26,700 meals to our neighbors in need --4,360 more meals than last year!
Beyond the school competition, local businesses, congregations, and individuals rallied together and helped us meet our goal of $100,000, securing at $25,000 match from the Challenge Corp.
Thanks to all who participated in this year's Challenge. Whether you donated funds, food, or your time, thanks for your support in ending local hunger!
