Action Alert: It's time to increase SNAP

Hungry People Can’t Wait.

Please join Beyond Hunger and other anti-hunger organizations to send a loud and clear message to the Senate to include Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) increases in the next COVID-19 package on Monday, July 20th from 9am to noon.

Monday is the Senate’s first day back from recess and we understand a COVID-19 bill is in the works. Congress still has work to do to help our most food insecure families. The previous SNAP increase went to about 60% of SNAP recipients. It’s time to increase the purchasing power of SNAP and make sure all vulnerable families are helped.

We are asking you to:

1. Call our Senators on Monday between 9am -12pm. Through a national effort, calls will come in from around the country and Senate office phones will ring all day. Be sure that you let our senators know we are grateful for their continued efforts toward hunger equity. They both support increasing SNAP benefits. But they need to hear you have their backs on this.

Our requests:
• Increase household SNAP benefits by 15%.
• Increase the minimum SNAP benefit from $16 to $30.
• Suspend all rulemaking that would limit access to SNAP.

2. Amplify the message via social media.  Tweet short videos or photos of yourself to our senators saying thank you for their support to increase SNAP benefits using hashtags #BoostSNAPNow and #SNAPFeedsKids. For instructions on how to include a selfie video click here.
