Brooks Wins the CAN DO Community Challenge Trophy!
As part of the CAN DO Community Challenge, schools hold food drives and compete to see who can collect the most. The school competition is scored on a point system (10 points for ever dollars; 5 points for “high powered” items such as beans, brown rice, and tuna; and 1 point for everything else). This year, 100% of Oak Park and River Forest public schools participated in the Challenge. 16 total schools hosted food drives, competing for the CAN DO trophy.
Overall the schools raised a whopping 127,394 points, more than double last year’s school total of 58,517 points! Brooks Middle School won the competition with 33,037 point – enough to feed 210 families! Rounding out the top 5 are Julian Middle School, Holmes Elementary School, Mann Elementary School, and Whittier Elementary School. Mann Elementary is also the winner of this year’s “Most Spirited” award.
We are exceedingly grateful for the generosity shown by our community. Thank you to all who rallied to put an end to local hunger.
