About Lucinda Williams
With Grammy Awards in country, rock, and folk, Williams has been making her mark across the music industry for over three decades. Her music is often likened to Bob Dylan or Tom Petty, both of whom she has toured with. Her unique voice and emotive songwriting was pivotal in launching the Americana movement.
Despite her talent, Lucinda’s rise to fame took time. In her early years as an artist, record companies told her she was “too rock for country” and “too country for rock.” It wasn’t until her third, self-titled album in 1988, where she gained more media attention with songs like “Changed the Locks” and “Passionate Kisses.” The latter was later covered by Mary Chapin Carpenter, earning Williams a Grammy for Best Country Song in 1992.
Williams’ long-awaited commercial breakthrough came with Car Wheels on a Gravel Road which won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album with songs like “Still Long for Your Kiss” and “Can’t Let Go.” Following this success, she released the album Essence. The rocking, “Get Right with God” earned Williams her third Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance in 2002. The same year she was also named America’s best songwriter by Time Magazine. Since then Williams has released 8 more albums and continues to create.
