Local Hunger

Nationally, 1 in 7 people are considered food insecure.  Locally, hunger can feel far away, but it exists in virtually every community, including ours.  View graphics as a PDF. 

You may be shocked to learn that hunger can reside in an affluent town like Oak Park, yet, over 7,000 people are consdiered food inscure in Oak Park alone. 

River Forest also is home to food insecurity.  6.8% of the population -- roughly 760 people -- are food insecure. 

In Berwyn, over 5,000 people are considered food insecure. 

Fores Park is home to over 2,500 people who are food insecure. 

Chicago's Austin neighborhood -- directly east of Oak Park -- is home to over 33,000 food insecure people.  Nope, it's not a typo: thirty-three thousand people are considered food insecure in Austin. 

Over 11,500 people are considered food insecure in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood.
