Virtual Benefit Concert is a Huge Success!
What an incredible weekend! We were not sure what to expect from a virtual event this year and as our largest event fundraiser, we were a bit nervous as to what this pivot could mean for our fundraising. But there was no need to worry, as YOU, the fans and anti-hunger advocates made the concert a bigger success than we imagined! With your help, we raised enough funds to provide over 350,000 meals!
Our night's emcee for the evening was the incredible Tom Marker, DJ at WDCB and WXRT, keeping the show flowing from one act to the next. The night kicked off with the beautiful voice of Shemekia Copeland accompanied by Ronnie Baker Brooks from the stage of FitzGerald's. Shemekia's collection of songs from her new album and past were so relevant to the times, while also making you want to get up off the couch and dance! We then heard from some past performers, Jeff Tweedy (2015) as well as Paul Janeway (St. Paul & The Broken Bones 2017) with some special shoutouts in support of Beyond Hunger. Nathaniel Rateliff then took the stage and played a mix of music from his new album as well as some songs from Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats. It was certainly an act to remember. For VIP and Friends of the Concert ticketholders, Nathaniel came on after the concert for a LIVE Q&A session via Zoom with Tom Marker. Asking a range of questions from his upbringing, to questions from fans, to ways he is involved in the community--it was a very memorable and special experience.
Whether you bought a ticket, bid on a silent auction item, made a donation, or shared with friends, we cannot thank you enough for coming out in a big way to help our neighbors in need.
We can’t wait for next year's show and hope to see each of you in person. If you wish to join our mailing list for future events, please sign up below.
