Volunteer Power

Beyond Hunger’s success is largely attributed to our committed and enthusiastic team of volunteers. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and for the 40 years before it, our ability to end hunger is powered by this loyal community.
During the pandemic, we quickly made changes to prioritize the safety of our clients and volunteers. We adjusted volunteer shifts to limit the number of people in the building and to allow for safe social distancing. We moved our distribution outdoors with prepacked boxes--maintining safe measures for volunteers, Pantry visitors, and staff. And we made sure that everyone received protective gear during each shift.

Thanks to all of our amazing volunteers who are committed to keeping our community safe and hunger-free.

“Before COVID, I had found a food pantry in Evanston that I volunteered at, but they have closed. I was thrilled when I found that OP food pantry was making it work with drive through and walk up and felt the need to help. The great enthusiasm and energy that the staff and volunteers provide feeds my soul.” - Paul (right)

“Volunteering at Beyond Hunger gives me a chance to see an immediate improvement in someone’s life. That is part of the joy of spending time at the Pantry. This has not changed during the Covid-19 pandemic; in fact, it has increased. People are immediately grateful they can come to a place where they receive help. “ - Katie
